Andrew Fusek Peters, our magnificent Shropshire wildlife photographer, has a new book out – combining his beautiful pictures with poems on the theme of Flight. He explains his vision for the project.
Since picking up my camera for the first time eight years ago, I’ve been fascinated by the theme of flight. This vision for this book was to go way beyond what we normally think of as ‘flying’ and to take the concept out a bit further. So we have hares leaping, the sun in the sky, the moon and the sky. I started out as a poet 1980s writing poetry and children’s books, so with this book, I’m coming back to what I love and mixing it in with nature. It’s a joy to play with form again, to condense the incredible flare of nature into a few tight lines.
I hope it will bring a little light lift to the spirits, a launchpad to soar through wildlife and over the landscapes I love.
Flight is published by Yew Tree Press – signed limited edition copies can be purchased from andrewfusekpeters.com or Yew Tree Press (£20, or £25 mail order).
There will be a launch event on October 21 at the Poetry Pharmacy, Bishops Castle, 7 pm. £3 entry to include a glass of wine and nibbles. Andrew will be signing copies and giving a talk, followed by a Q&A.
Booking is via Eventbrite
