Arrive at Your Wedding in Style? Pengwern Boat Club has the Answer
21 Jul 2022

Arrive at your wedding - Shrewsbury style!

Choose the historic Pengwern Boat Club for your big day and you could arrive in style in one of the club’s own beautiful wooden rowing boats.

Set foot on the pontoon at Pengwern Boat Club and enjoy with your guests a most beautiful wedding party in a picturesque setting, looking out over the River Severn towards The Quarry park.

The club has been completely renovated and redecorated during Covid and now has a tasteful, bluey/grey interior, with a large space for dancing on polished wooden floors, bar area, stunning views and historic stained glass windows - add fairy lights and bunting and you’ll have a magical evening. You can decorate it however you like and the clubhouse has tables and chairs at your disposal.

The clubhouse is for hire (basic hire starts at £900) but you might also choose to hire the balcony too - (for an additional £300) - where you are able to erect a marquee to accommodate additional guests.

The club provides all bar services for you too and you’ll have the flexibility to plan the day and evening as you want.

It’s an unbeatable setting, and you’ll be partying in a Grade II listed building with a rich history too, dating back to 1881, when the current, red-roofed, half-timbered clubhouse was built. As one of the most attractive and historic boat clubs in the UK, it has a quirky and interesting interior - look out for the coat and badge of one of its most famous coaches, Tom Hoare. He was the youngest ever winner of the Thames National Coat and Badge in 1861. The club first competed at the Henley Royal Regatta soon after the First World War and is still thriving today, with masters and junior sections too.

If you need any more persuading, Carol Decker of T’Pau once lived here in a flat above the clubhouse - it’s where she composed most of her hit records - so you’d better have some T’Pau on your playlist!

The capacity is 65 seated, or 120 for an informal buffet and party, or 120 seated in a marquee on the balcony (you need to arrange your own marquee hire). You are advised to book a year in advance if you need a marquee. You’ll need to arrange your own caterers, who will bring crockery and tablecloths.

Marquee weddings are popular at Pengwern Boat Club

Currently, it is not possible to have your ceremony at the clubhouse, but this may change as laws in England may soon change to give couples more flexibility.
