Colour By Nature will be open to visitors every day from 10am to 4pm at Bear Steps Art Gallery, St Alkmonds Place, from August 7 - 20
Another beautiful exhibition by local artists will move in to The Bear Steps Art Gallery this weekend - as part of The Shrewsbury Arts Trail.
This colourful joint exhibition from Karen Sillar and Alison Stafford will celebrate the best of nature in printmaking, acrylics and oils. Karen will be exhibiting a collection of linocuts and monotypes alongside fellow artist Alison, who is well-known locally for her pet portaits (see 'Pawsome Paintings').
Having grown up in Constable country, Alison is inspired by stunning scenery and animals. A career in fashion design allowed her to explore a passion for colour which she now translates to her oils and acrylics, endeavouring to convey and emotional response to her subjects. From Padstow Daisies and coastal paths to pine forests and spring fields, her contemporary acrylics on canvas sing out in an expressionistic style, evoking a strong emotional response (pictured below).
Karen Sillar is a Shrewsbury artist and printmaker who finds her inspiration in nature, colour and light and creates striking linoprints, of birds and fish and other animals, in strong colours. She is drawn to the distinct lines and shapes of their form, attempting to capture the essence of each species in the finished piece. She's also an active member of the Association of Animal Artists.
After recent house moves, both artists are taking the opportunity to run a ‘Studio Sale’ alongside the main exhibition – so plenty of work at reduced prices alongside greetings cards, mugs and other merchandise.
Karen & Alison will be demonstrating their craft throughout the exhibition and delighted to welcome visitors to chat about their work and process.
Find them also at DRAWN 2022 at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery from September 24-25 and at Granary Art Gallery, Weston Park this Autumn, form October 29 - November 30.
