It's been three years since Dan Owen delighted the home crowd in Shrewsbury with his 'Shrop til I Drop' tour and now he's back again this December 3, putting on a show at Shrewsbury Abbey, in what promises to be an 'epic' concert in stunning surroundings!
The news that 'Bluesboy Dan' is back for a gig at Shrewsbury Abbey is sure to reverberate across town within minutes of going up on social media today. If you're keen to go, you'd be wise to book fast!
Dan Owen is homegrown talent, gigging at pubs throughout his teens, but his star has soared higher than most. His husky vocals and gritty, blues-infused pop/rock style has earned him a massive fan base throughout the UK and Europe. His debut album 'Stay Awake With Me' has been streamed 60 million times to date. He signed to Atlantic Records in 2015 and put out his debut EP Bad for Me, later that year, followed by 'Open Hands & Enemies' and a European tour with Birdy has his support act, before working on his debut album and embarking on a second European tour.
His song 'Hideaway' was used in the trailer for the 2019 film Angel Has Fallen and Dan went on to tour Canada and the US in the summer of that year.
Then came a bit of a passion project for Dan, a folk tour of the UK - just him and his guitar on a bike over 850km - getting back to his roots. Dan also played St Mary's in November 2019 - tickets sold out so fast, he had to schedule more nights.
Since then he's released new singles 'Radio Tower', 'Boys Don't Cry' and 'Fall Before You' in August 2021, which he says was written as a promise to his new baby daughter that he will always be there for her (it's why we all love Dan!).
He's back in Shropshire now, among his beloved hills - he tried out the London life, but it wasn't for him - and now just commutes when he needs and makes music in his spare room back home. Lockdown has been a productive time for him, with collaborations with other songwriters all over the world.
Dan is back on an 'Acoustic Tour' of the UK now, playing Bournemouth (Nov 1), Barrow-in-Furness (Nov 5) Southend (Nov 7) and Brighton (Nov 27) and more coming up soon.
But Dan always takes care to pull out something extra special for his fans back home. His 'Shrop til I Drop' tour in 2018 was a huge hit in Shrewsbury, with packed venues across town (Dan is pictured here playing at The Dolphin). Dan recalls: "I played 11 gigs in a row in my home town, all in the old pubs I grew up playing in! The gigs were so busy my mum couldn’t get in and we had to bring my Nan in through a fire escape - good times!"
If you are lucky enough to get tickets to see Dan in Shrewsbury Abbey on December 3 - brought to us by Henry Tudor House - you'd better learn the words, as the crowds will be singing along to Dan's mega hits including 'Hideaway', 'What is a Man', 'Icarus' and 'Stay Awake With Me'.
Dan says of the concert planned for December 3: "Shrewsbury gig is on! We missed out on this Christmas tradition last year, so we've got twice the size of venue this year. Shrewsbury Abbey is going to be an epic place for my first headline gig back!"
