The brilliant art fair DRAWN aims to bring local artists and creators together under one roof - it returns to Shrewsbury Flaxmill on April 29 & 30, with free entry & a special appearance from Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard.
We are big fans of DRAWN - Shrewsbury's brilliant local art fair which began during the pandemic in Shrewsbury's Museum & Art Gallery and has now migrated to Shrewsbury Flaxmill's Dye House, where 50 artists and creators will showcase their work next bank holiday weekend (April 29 & 30).
Creator Cherie Jerrard is amazed at how popular her little idea has become and agreed to answer a few questions!

What can we expect from the new Drawn exhibition?
The best of our designers, illustrators, artists, creators, makers & shakers. Along with tasty treats and inspirational activities. A warm welcome whatever the weather on a Bank Holiday Weekend. And it’s FREEEE!
Why have you decided to continue these events?
Shropshire has a particularly high standard of creatives. These events provide inspiration and a focus for us all to aim for. We are DRAWN together to support each other so we can continue doing what we love!
How is the event growing?
It has multiplied faster than a field of rabbits. Word has spread to surrounding areas and people are prepared to travel to take part.
What's the Flaxmill like as a venue?
We are based in the Dye House which you can’t help but reflect on what must have been a hub of activity in the past and be grateful that we get to be creative and work in much better conditions today. Thankful for the traditional covering - it’s almost like an outdoor space without the risk if bad weather hits. There are clothing designers taking part and the juxtaposition is thought provoking. It’s a fantastic space and well worth a visit. The workshops are taking place in the stables.
Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard will be at DRAWN at Shrewsbury Flaxmill this April 29 & 30
What kind of demos is Charlie Adlard doing?
Charlie is doing what he does best and sketching straight from his imagination. We met up recently to discuss his favourite art materials and he will be using them at DRAWN to inspire others. There will be a a smattering of these tucked into some of the FREE tote bags - see if you get lucky !
Who else is involved this time?
Lamy are gifting a few goodies for the tote bags too and we will be doing demonstrations of their digital Ncode pen so that you can try it for yourself. The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast will be interviewing, hanging out with the community and chatting with visitors.
Supporters include: Write Here, Shrewsbury Bid, Pentel & Lamy - so we can continue to give out FREE Tote Bags :)
Cherie will be running Procreate Pet Portrait workshops during the weekend
What do people need to do to take part in the Journaling and the Procreate Pet Portrait workshops?
First of all, book your place via our website www.DRAWN.live
One workshop is free but you’d still need to reserve your space. They usually fill up before the event begins.
What is Journaling?
Whether you keep a diary or a list of 'to do' notes Journaling combines both in a visual and written form. It helps to connect your thoughts, your experiences and your memories. Jill Overbury will teach you all the tips and tricks to create beautiful journal pages. Whether you want to memory keep, create a travel log or learn how to make collages with ephemera, this journaling workshop will set you on a journey that will improve your creativity, well-being and mental health.
How will people create Pet Portraits?
The pet portrait workshop is more about having a go at using Procreate on an iPad and finding your style. I’ve offered up a theme of drawing a dog or pet of choice but that is simply for our reference and to keep the class fun and lighthearted as we experiment with drawing digitally (please bring your own iPad with Procreate installed). I’m constantly asked to do private tutorials so this an offering to a small group.
There will also be Sunday Morning 'Crafty Kids' workshops and Modern Calligraphy with Daisy Pooley-Tolkien.
