Drawn Gets Smiley Face from Local Artists!
This weekend's DRAWN Illustrators Fair at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery proved a huge success, attracting hundreds of visitors throughout the day on Saturday.
It was a chance to meet some of the faces behind our My Shrewsbury artwork - as many of the artists have featured in our magazine - and an opportunity to chat to local creative talent and marvel at the great array of skills on display. A total of 12 illustrators exhibited their prints, cards and gifts, many of which had been created during lockdown.
"It's been amazing," said organiser Cherie Jerrard of @cheriedidthis "We've been busy all day and people have been so positive and so impressed with the talent in Shrewsbury - we might just have to do it again!"
Shrewsbury really is a hive of innovate and prolific makers working across a range of media. We were pleased to meet Hannah of HannahDayUK who has lived in Shrewsbury for 12 years after relocating from Devon.
Hannah was thrilled to be one of this weekend's stallholders: "The crowds came in a steady pace all day. I think I stopped for only a handful of times. It was wonderful to see so many people out, wanting to celebrate, and purchase, work from local artists.
"On line sales have been great in keeping so many of our small business going but there is nothing like meeting and talking to people who respond to what you are making. To know some of the people and imagine my work in their homes is a privilege. I am still amazed when anyone buys one of my prints,' Hannah said.
"So much is via Esty, Not on the High Street, and now we are reopening, amazing boutiques she as Mistilly in the market who stock some of my pieces, but it never replaces the joy of face to face. We hope to do more so keep an eye out on for the next event and remember, whenever you can buy local!"

And fellow stallholder and artist Tat Effby (pictured here) added: "It’s not unusual for illustrators to sit at home working alone for weeks on end, but this last year and a bit has really taken the biscuit. So thank you to Cherie for having such a brilliant idea, for getting us all out of the front door, for getting our work in front of such an appreciative crowd of beautiful and clever members of the public.
"It was such a valuable and, yeah, I’m going to say it… joyous, day for us all, I hope we can do it again as soon as Cherie has recovered from this one!"
