Ian Pearsall Exhibition at The Soden Collection
22 Jun 2022

The Soden Collection will present a selection of recent works by Ian Pearsall from July 23 to August 13, 2022, at the gallery in Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury.

Following the success of artist Ian Pearsall's launch in The Soden Collection on Wyle Cop, the gallery will be presenting a selection of his works in a special exhibition this summer.

Ian lived in Malawi for 15 years before moving to The Potteries, in Staffordshire, aged 16 (his parents came from a long line of potters, coal miners and painters). He had come from the bright landscapes, brilliant colours and agricultural trades of Africa, but found himself increasingly inspired by the industrial townscapes of The Potteries - tiles, brick, pavements, alleyways and the living spaces amongst 'industrial hell'.

A change in studio space during the pandemic saw him relocate from Stoke-on-Trent to the Shropshire/Staffordshire border and allowed him to connect with a different kind of beauty in our landscapes, and the rolling hills of the Shropshire countryside.

Ian's latest 'Journey' exhibition explores the journey from the bright colours of Africa through the darkness of industry, to the gorgeous, green spaces of the borderlands.

Each week, the exhibition will highlight a different subject, beginning with 'Africa', then 'Birth of Industry' and finishing with 'Countryside'. It will also contain music and sculpture which has inspired Ian's work.

"What I look for (in an artist) is individuality and, with Ian, he has that in bucket-loads. I love the atmosphere he creates," says gallery owner Jonathan Soden, who visited Ian in his studio to create a short video 'The City of Fire and Beautiful Bricks'.

Ian Pearsall's 'Journey' exhibition is at The Soden Collection, 80 Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury SY1 1UT from July 23 to August 13.

Please contact the gallery for more information, or if you would like to attend the private view on Friday, July 22.
