Oil to the Fort Lights up the Castle

An explosion of colour, light and sound at Shrewsbury Castle at the weekend was the backdrop for a visionary three-day mini music festival, says Katy Rink who brought back these pictures of Oil to the Fort.

Oil Night Long was the hottest ticket in town! If you were lucky enough to have experienced it, you’ll be telling everyone about it too. Created by the team from Bar Oil and sister restaurant Dough & Oil on Castle Street, it was nothing short of visionary.

Revellers danced to top quality bands throughout the weekend - even in spite of the rain on Saturday - and at the silent disco right on top of the castle motte, into the small hours. The open air cinema got a bit of a dousing, but was soon up and running again.

Visionary Creatives

Magical, multi-colored uplighting, bounced off the red sandstone castle walls and picked out shapes of trees and there were some wildly creative touches too - like retro lampshades and an awesome mood cube gateway on arrival.

With a food court, taps bar, cocktails and coffee in funky, repurposed shipping containers, this really was a festival of new ideas - to be captured in pictures!

Rumour has it, they’ll do it all again before long…
