08 Aug 2022

The Henry Angell-James Memorial Trust (HAJMT) is hosting its first big fundraiser - a 5K Fun Run at Sansaw Business Park, Hadnall, on September 24, 2022 - and ITV anchorman Tom Bradby (pictured) will cut the ribbon!

Local Shropshire Charity the Henry Angell-James Memorial Trust is holding its inaugural 5K Fun Run this September 24 to raise funds to continue to donate automated external difibrillators (AEDs) to communities that need them across Shropshire and the West Midlands.

The fun, non-timed, 5k run around stunning North Shropshire countryside, will be hosted by local business Sansaw Estate. The mixed terrain course follows a route around the countryside at Sansaw Business Park but if running isn’t your thing then walking is fine!

There will be a raffle with lots of prizes and refreshments as well as a selfie podium (NB, you must pre-register to join the run - see below for entry details).

HAJMT is delighted to welcome its ambassador, ITV News at 10 Anchor, screenwriter and novelist, Tom Bradby to cut the starter ribbon with Shropshire High Sheriff Selina Graham and Cliff Medlicott, Community Response Manager from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Tom is a former previous political editor of ITV News (2005-2015) and currently presents the ITV News at Ten. He has also served as ITV's Ireland correspondent (1993-1996), as a royal correspondent, conducting the first official interview of Prince William following news of his engagement to Kate Middleton and from October 2015, as the main newscaster of News at Ten. He also co-presented ITV's coverage of the funeral of Prince Philip, with Julie Etchingham in April 2021. With his writing hat on, Tom has penned eight novels and the ITV drama The Great Fire.

Tom said: "This is a brilliant charity I am an ambassador for, doing great work and set up in memory of a wonderful friend. Please do come and join us or support in any way you can.”

Sally Angell-James

The charity was set up by Henry Angell-James' wife Sally (pictured above) following Henry's untimely and sudden death, aged 54, due to a cardiac arrest on a train returning home to Shrewsbury from work five years ago. In his memory, HAJMT is on a mission to help save the lives of others by raising money to buy Public Access Defibrillators, also referred to as Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and donate them to communities that need one.

Working with the West Midlands Ambulance Service, HAJMT’s aim is to buy as many AEDs as possible, identify key locations and install them across Shropshire, the West Midlands and beyond.

HAJMT Founder Sally said: "The main aim is to raise funds so we can keep purchasing AEDs to put into communities that are unable to fund them, but also for everyone to have a fun day out around this lovely part of Shropshire. Take it as seriously or as relaxed as you like – time yourself, or team up and get dressed up?

"Make it an office day out, run with your colleagues, friends and family – Each runner will get at T-Shirt & a medal and there will be a raffle, as well as refreshments available. Register now as there is a certain capacity and tickets are selling fast.”

To date, over 60 AEDs have been given to communities around Shropshire and the West Midlands and beyond. The charity has relied on the generosity of private donations and is now preparing for its first big fundraising event in order to secure more AEDs to satisfy the continuous demand of applications received.

Cliff Medlicott, Community Response Manager from West Midlands Ambulance Service, added: "Sally and her team at HAJMT work tirelessly to please AED s in the community on a non-profit basis to enable more people to survive sudden out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest. WMAS are proud to support HAJMT in their work within West Midlands communities."

Tickets include a T-Shirt and a medal, Adults £12.50 and Child (under 16) £7.50.

The Fun Run is kindly sponsored by Shropshire businesses: Morris & Company, Berrys, MKMBS Telford, Monks and European Geophysical Services.
