If you were lucky enough to get tickets to Oil to the Fort at Shrewsbury Castle last summer, you'll remember the awesome celebration on straw bales created by bar Oil and Dough and Oil.
It's back this year 'bigger and badder' - with even bigger creative ideas to include a silent disco up at Laura's Tower (separate ticket required), open-air cinema, live comedy and two main stages for live music throughout the weekend of June 17 - 19.
The castle will be open during the day too, from 3pm on Friday, or 12pm Saturday and Sunday - with an invitation to bring the whole family for a mini festival on the doorstep. Step through the 12th century gates into the inner bailey and discover what might just turn out to be the coolest three-day fiesta Shrewsbury has ever had!
Last year was laid back, with straw bales and a main, central bar, with more intimate pallet booths around it. This year, a raw, urban theme will introduce vibrant colours and lights bouncing off the red sandstone walls of the Great Hall. There'll be a food court and liquor yard in funky storage containers showcasing local vendors including Daily Brews, The Curry House, Dough and Oil and Oil on the taps and cocktails.
A main stage will host an eclectic mix of local and national bands, throughout the weekend, from local blues to seven piece afrobeat reggae.
Head up the tree-covered motte for a more intimate experience at the Laura's Tower stage and bar, where you'll be able to lounge around whiskey barrels with a glass of wine, listening to jazz whilst the sun goes down - the ultimate sundowner.
“We were really keen to create a space where people can come together and enjoy great music with influences from far and wide, with two distinct spaces creating two very different areas it should be a great weekend," says Oil to the Fort co-creator Aaron Brown.
On the Saturday night, the castle will close its gates, reopening Laura’s Tower to host the Silent Disco, which will go on into the small hours, finishing at 1.30am.
"Last year was really a showcase of what we could do under the restrictions and to provide a space where people felt somewhat normal, this year it’s business as usual - full on fezzy vibes," Aaron adds.
- Oil to the Fort at Shrewsbury Castle will be open on Friday, June 17th from 3pm to 11.30pm, on Saturday, June 18th from 12pm to 11pm and then for the Silent Disco (separate ticket needed) from 11.30pm to 1.30am.
- Oil to the Fort will then open again on Sunday, from 12pm to 10.30pm.
Tickets cost £10 (Fri), £14 (Sat) and £12 (Sun). Children U6, free. Tickets to the silent disco are £7. BOOK HERE
