Rickshaw Rides to Festival
08 Jun 2022

The Belle Vue Arts Festival is back - and this year you’ll be able to catch a rickshaw from the town centre to join in the fun!

The Belle Vue Arts Festival begins this Saturday, June 11 - look out for the festivities at the Greyfriars Bridge throughout the day (you might already have spotted the bunting is back!). The ‘Let’s Celebrate’ opening event will include live music throughout the day, free drop-in art activities, a toy model railway, Lego and paper planes and more!

You’ll also be able to chat to representatives from the Ramblers, Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Shrewsbury Urban Sketchers, Shrewsbury Railway Heritage Trust, Co-Wheels Shrewsbury and the Shrewsbury Cycle Hub.

This year’s festival takes the theme of ‘Journeys’ and My Shrewsbury is proud to be a sponsor of the BVAF Art Competition once again, with prizes including having work featured on the front cover of the My Shrewsbury magazine - and taking over the window of The Soden Collection!

There’s a fortnight of activities for all the family, including the ever-popular Open Gardens event on Sunday, June 19 (10am - 4pm, £3 per adult) which has an added attraction this year - you’ll be able to catch a rickshaw from the town centre to enjoy the gardens. The ride is free when you buy your trail programme. Also on the same weekend is the Art & Scarecrow Trail, with trail maps available from Stop Coffee, House Coffee Co and Coleham Sandwich Bar.

This family-friendly festival brings together local artists, residents and community groups, with huge opportunities to display local artistic talent - there’s the Photography and Art Exhibition (June 18 & 19) at The Hermitage Centre (SY3 7NL), an open mic night at the closing event ‘Belle Vue’s Got Talent’ at The Red Barn Pub on June 25 and an informal evening with local poets and musicians (June 16 at Barnabas Church Centre).

Plus pub walks, photography and drumming workshops, free yoga, a pedal in the park (June 18) organised by Cycling4AllShropshire and much more.
