Top violinist Matt Glossop will perform festive classics amidst the twinkling Christmas trees in St Chad’s Church in Christmas Greetings LIVE! this December 23rd.
One of the UK’s leading classical recording artists Matt Glossop is bringing a magical family Christmas show to St Chad’s Church.
Set amidst the twinkling trees of the church’s popular Christmas Tree Festival, Christmas Greetings LIVE! promises to be a heartwarming and joyous evening, full of sparkle and joy.
Matt grew up in Shrewsbury and went on to study Music at the RNCM in Manchester, developing a top performing career which has seen him travel around the country delivering atmospheric, solo Candlelight Concerts, including venues as grand as Southwark Cathedral (pictured above). He's performed on records for Sony Music, on stage with Andrew Lloyd Webber and led backing strings for mainstream pop artists on national TV, including performances on Strictly Come Dancing, Eurovision Song Contest Final, XFactor and Songs of Praise. Artists he's worked with include Burt Bacharach, Il Divo, Girls Aloud and Lewis Capaldi.

Matt has also had a sparkling orchestral career, touring with the finest British chamber and symphony orchestras, including The Royal Northern Sinfonia and the Hallé Orchestra and has appeared in several Royal Shakespeare Company productions. Now, under the banner of his own, recently formed events management business, the Bloomsbury Event Group, he is bringing a very special festive concert to his hometown of Shrewsbury this December 23rd.
Supported by The Bloomsbury Soloists (piano, viola and cello) he will deliver a concert full of festive music classics at St Chad's Church. The aim is to appeal to all - with a clever mix of light Christmas classics, songs and movie soundtracks.
There are Christmas tunes from Home Alone (Somewhere In My Memory), Love Actually (Glasgow Theme) plus excerpts from The Snowman including ‘Walking in the Air’, along with classical favourites ‘Winter’ from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Schubert’s Ave Maria and Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, themes from The Nutcracker, Viennese favourites - and many more.
The pieces are deliberately short and accessible, ensuring all audience members can find something to enjoy, regardless of whether they might consider themselves classical music fans. There are two 70-minute ‘shows’ in St Chad’s on December 23rd, at 5.30pm and 7.30pm, to cater for families and Christmas shoppers too.

“It’s a real mix - a very special, one of a kind concert which aims to cater for all,” Matt explains. “The aim is to bring a newer audience to classical music concerts, to break down some of the barriers, making it accessible for all and to appeal to people who may not come to traditional classical concerts.
“It has a bit of everything that gives everyone in the room something to take away. From my experience of playing to different types of audiences, they can appreciate the greats but they also like a bit of cheese! Good music is good music.
“I’m sure people in Shrewsbury are aware that St Chad's puts on a magical Christmas tree festival every year. It’s going to be a joyous, heartwarming evening surrounded by all the festive lit trees.”
Matt is planning a raft of further live experience shows through 2024 - so watch this space! And he’ll be releasing his reimagined version of Coldplay classics online this December. Follow Matt, listen to his YouTube recordings and receive album updates HERE https://mattglossop.com/
