Richard O'Brien's legendary rock 'n' roll musical The Rocky Horror Show comes to Theatre Severn on its 50th anniversary tour from March 6th -11th, 2023
We all know it's a vital life skill to be able to quote great chunks of Richard's O'Brien's 1975 cult musical comedy horror The Rocky Horror Picture Show by heart.
From Dammit Janet to The Time Warp and of course, the inimitable Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch- a, Touch me these are lyrics that seep into the blood. It's wildly silly, campy fun with outlandish costumes - what other movie begins with a pair of floating disembodied lips? Now, for the first time, the stage version is coming to Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn from March 6th - 11th.
The musical tells the story of two college kids – Brad and his fiancée Janet - who meet the charismatic Dr Frank ’n’ Furter after their car breaks down outside a creepy mansion on their way to visit a former college professor. Much adventure ensues and over-the-top, corny frivolity!
Directed by Christopher Luscombe, The Rocky Horror Show is ready to thrill with plenty of naughty moments, and features all the favourite timeless classics, including the pelvic-thrusting show-stopping Time Warp. It's been described as 'Still the sexiest and funniest show in town' by the Evening Standard - and now it's coming to Shropshire on its 50th anniversary tour of the UK.
The Rocky Horror Show writer Richard O’Brien said: “To be celebrating fifty years is beyond my wildest expectations - from the humble beginnings back in 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre in London. The fact that The Rocky Horror Show continues to delight audiences as it tours the UK fifty years on is simply amazing. The Rocky Horror Show is one of Britain’s most performed and beloved musicals of all time”.
Theatre Severn’s Marketing Officer Beki Poole said: “This is the first time The Rocky Horror Show has come to Theatre Severn so we’re very excited to stage this legendary production and welcome audiences for what promises to be a thrilling night out! Tickets are selling extremely fast, so early booking is definitely recommended”.
The Rocky Horror Show is a guaranteed party, which famously combines science-fiction, horror, comedy and music while encouraging audience participation – meaning getting dressed-up in the most outrageous fancy dress. It’s the boldest bash of them all. But be warned, this show has rude parts!
Tickets for The Rocky Horror Show at Theatre Severn are on sale now (£37.50 - £47.50) and can be booked online at theatresevern.co.uk, by telephone (01743 281281) and from the venue Box Office.
