The public vote for Britain’s Favourite Market 2024 is currently under way as part of the Great British Market Awards, organised annually by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA).

Shrewsbury Market Hall won the 2023 title, earlier this year, after accumulating the most public votes in the UK. It had previously won the accolade five years earlier, back in 2018.

“The competition among markets gets stiffer every year, but we believe our market truly gets better and better every year!” said Shrewsbury Market Hall Facilities Manager Kate Gittins.

“We know we’ve won the hearts of many local people, but we also have fans from much further away, even on the other side of the world.

“Many visitors tell us that they come from places like Manchester, Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Wolverhampton, Chester, Wrexham and Mid Wales just to visit our market.

“Our customers are very loyal and their numbers are increasing all the time. It’s thanks to them, giving up their time to vote for us, that we’ve managed to win the title twice. We wish to thank each and every one for voting for us.

“We still need those votes coming in ‘though. The polling closes at midnight on December 15 and the competition allows for market fans to vote once every day, if they wish. If people want to vote for us in the competition, we’re listed as ‘Shrewsbury Indoor Market’.”

For the 2024 competition a shortlist of the top markets will be created, based on public votes. The winner will then be decided by a Great British Market Awards judging panel.

The winner of the Great British Market Awards, including Britain’s Favourite Market 2024, will be announced at the NABMA annual conference in January.
