JUBILEE EVENTS

Shrewsbury is gearing up for major celebrations during the extended Jubilee bank holiday weekend and the town is already looking fabulous! Here are some ideas for events to join in with - or you may be planning a street party of your own.

If you’re planning a big Jubilee party, send us some of your pictures to share from the event as you’ll be making history! Please email editorial@myshrewsbury.co.uk as we’d love to see them.

We’ve tried to gather up as many events as we can muster to give you options to join the Jubilee celebrations - there are lots of street parties going on out there, but if you’d just like to wander into town, or catch a concert, here are some ideas…

The outdoor entertainment in Shrewsbury

The Town Centre - June 2-5

Parts of Shrewsbury town centre will close to traffic over the Jubilee weekend, to encourage a celebratory atmosphere! You’re invited to bring a picnic and enjoy live music in The Square and St Alkmund’s Churchyard and enjoy the red, white and blue decorations across town.

Wyle Cop (uphill), High Street and Shoplatch will be closed to through-traffic from 10am to 4pm for the four days of the Jubilee weekend – 2 to 5 June.

Businesses in Shrewsbury are getting involved with jubilee-themed window displays and events, supported by Shrewsbury BID and there will be live music, deck chairs and bean bags to invite people to enjoy picnicking in St Alkmund’s Churchyard and The Square (visit The Square on June 2, 4, 5 and St Alkmund’s Church on June 3).

Make sure to look out for the Jubilee Beacon, which will be lit from Laura’s Tower at Shrewsbury Castle on June 2 at 9.45 pm as part of the national beacon lighting. The ceremony will be led by the Council Chairman and, although a closed event, will be livestreamed on Shropshire Council's main social media channels.

There’s the Shrewsbury Duck Hunt going on in town too - https://shrewsburyduckhunt.co.uk/

And don’t forget there’s free parking available on Sundays and bank holidays in Abbey Foregate and Frankwell.
