‘Abstract Landscapes’

The Gateway Gallery, Chester Street – until June 2nd (weekdays 9am to 4pm)

The Borderland Visual Arts network is showcasing abstract landscape themed artwork throughout May, with a mix of paintings, ceramics and sculptures. The Association of Animal Artists Spring Exhibition

The Rose Paterson Art Gallery, Weston Park – Until May 31st

A wonderful exhibition depicting a huge variety of animals and nature, in a wide array of mediums and styles – from realistic big cats in coloured pencils to gestural elephants in oils as well as amazing 3D artwork. Meet the exhibiting artists each weekend and enjoy demonstrations of their styles and techniques.

John Rogers - Bear Steps Art Gallery

John Rogers will take over the Gallery, Balcony and Link Room from April 30th until May 14th with his solo exhibition at Bear Steps Art Gallery in St Almonds Place. And the exhibition at GlouGlou wine bar and shop on Castle Gates 'A Meeting Place' with landscape artist Jane Beesley and photographer James Warman has now been extended until the beginning of June.

Lunchtime Concert at St Chad's

Pianist Lloyd Buck will perform a free lunchtime concert at St Chad's, starting at 12.30pm, to be followed by a light lunch in the church hall.

A screening of The Coronation of His Majesty The King, organised by Shrewsbury BID, is set to take place on a big screen at Shrewsbury Castle. This free event has now SOLD OUT.

Boat on a river - Pengwern Regatta

Pengwern Boat Regatta

Pengwern Boat Club - May 7th & 8th, 9.30am

The famous Shrewsbury Regatta is returning this bank holiday weekend! It's a great chance to watch crews from across the country in action, enjoy the BBQ and refreshments and the buzz of the action on the riverside, or bring a picnic and while away the afternoon.

Art Auction

Albrighton Hall Hotel, Sunday 7th & Monday 8th, 12.30pm - 5pm

Fine Art Auctioneers and diamond merchants Charles Phillips are holding an Art Auction. The auction will start at 1.30pm with viewing from 12.30pm on both days. The auctioneers say they need to urgently clear approximately 20,000 items from a 10-acre site near Edinburgh since their showrooms have been earmarked for redevelopment.

The goods advertised to be sold include 'original and limited editions' artworks. Artists featured in the auction include: Picasso, Dali, Van Gogh, Chagall, Klimt, Money, Banksy, LS Lowry, Miro and more. Also coming under the hammer will be wine, whiskey, diamonds, art, furniture, technology items and collectibles. You can view the showrooms and example lots from the current UK auction program here

Pengwern Boat Regatta

All the fun continues at Pengwern Boat Club, from 9.30am (see above)!

Coronation Party – Shrewsbury Cathedral

The Cathedral Grounds and The Orchard Café, 12pm – 3pm

Including a Royal- themed buffet, with music from singer Jo Dennis and a variety of stalls and games. Entrance £5 (under 16s free). Tickets are available at the cathedral office and on the day.

Shrewsbury Abbey Coronation Celebration

Shrewsbury Abbey, 1pm – 4pm

The grounds outside of the Abbey will be used for a tea party and picnic to celebrate the coronation.

Coronation Community Barbecue and Picnic

The Glebelands, Bayston Hill, 12pm – 4pm

With a bouncy castle, soft drinks, live music, side shows, craft stalls and a penalty shoot-out competition.

Peter James thriller Wish You Were Dead is the next big play to come to Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn (May 9 - 13), and there's a free recital at St Alkmund's on Tuesday lunchtime by Japanese prodigy pianist Shunta Morimoto (1pm).
