It's Bonfire Night this weekend with options big and small across Shropshire - plus there's some great new exhibitions opening and Christmas fairs beginning.

Saturday, November 4th

Shropshire Charity Firework and Bonfire Extravaganza - Hosted at West Mid Showground by The 90s Revival, with Rozalla and Robbie Jones on the main stage. Gates open at 4.30pm with sound sensitive fireworks, 6.15pm, followed by the main display at 7.45pm. Tickets £15 (online) or £6.50 child -

Sunday, November 5

Shrewsbury Drapers Company’s Textile Exhibition is at Shrewsbury Library (Nov 10 - 25).  See wonderful competition entries on the theme of ‘East meets West’ during library opening hours. 

‘Up the Garden Path’, an exhibition of local printmakers celebrates Shrewsbury's status as a town of flowers, at Mrs Jones Art Shop & Gallery, 118 Longden Coleham, 10am to 4pm (until Nov 25). The artists are: Elly Jones, Catherine Bowdler, Sam Marshall and Su Frances plus local Shropshire artists, Ellie Cliftland, Rachel Quilty and Karen Sillar. A new Autumn Exhibition is on at Bear Steps Art Gallery (10am until 5pm) until Nov 11 with a clutch of local artists and makers featured: Sandra Lane (Painter), Rachael Johnson (Painter), Angela Slack (Painter), Jan Austin (Painter), Jane Taylor (Painter), Sam Waters (Painter), and Tony Hedley (Potter).

‘Wonderful Wales’ an exhibition of photography by Sam Davis is also at Bear Steps Art Gallery until Nov 11, with images available to purchase in colour and monochrome from the photographer’s extensive collection of landscapes. 

Ashes Under Uricon is a balcony exhibition at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery exploring works inspired by the Romany City at Wroxeter (until Dec 17). 

Exhibition on Screen: Klimt and The Kiss is at The Old Market Hall cinema (Nov 2 & 9) with multiple showtimes. Nov 2 has sold out but NB there are just a few seats left for Nov 9.

NB The giant ‘Pumpkin Smash’ over at Arscott Farm due to take place this weekend has been cancelled, due to the poor weather forecast. NB Christmas tree sales start from Nov 25 at the farm (10am to 5.30pm daily). 

Take part in the Autumn ‘Stomp & Stamp Trail’ at Attingham Park - a welly walk with stamps to collect on the way round (Nov 1 - 5).

Killers of the Flower Moon (15) is the film at The Old Market Hall this week - an epic western crime saga starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone (Nov 3 - 9).

Friday, November 3rd

There’s another Shrewsbury Farmers Market in The Square from 9am to 3.30pm. 

A lunchtime concert with music for viola, clarinet and piano is at St Chad’s Church, 12.30pm. Free admission.

‘Half the Seed of Europe’ - Remembrance in Poetry and Music, is at St Alkmund’s Church (Nov 7). The UK’s leading brass quintet Onyx Brass will be performing at The URC (Nov 10), pianist Kyle Hutchings is giving a lunchtime recital at St Alkmund’s (Nov 14). ‘Hiding’ - a thought-provoking exhibition of artwork by local emerging artist Grace Currie opens at The Gateway from Nov 10 - 21. And new exhibitions from Ffeisty Ffelters and Jordan Stokes come to Bear Steps (Nov 12 - 26).

Theatre Severn is down to the last few tickets for shows this week - That’ll Be the Day (Nov 8), Rave On (Nov 10), The Jam’D (Nov 11) and Severn Jesters Comedy Club (Nov 12). 

Next weekend, there’s a Remembrance Day match at Shrewsbury Town FC (Nov 11) and the annual Remembrance Day parade from the castle to The Quarry (Nov 12). And it’s the November Fair in The Square (Nov 11).
