Enjoy this very fine, free concert at St Chad's Church with Ulrich Heinen, cello tutor at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, with scores of recordings and solo performances to his name - in 1984 he became principal cellist and section leader of the CBSO at Sir Simon Rattle's invitation. John has appeared throughout the country as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician and is currently piano tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Remembrance Parade And Service

St Chad's Church

On Sunday, November 14, The Mayor will lead a civic procession with units of HM Forces and Service organisations from Shrewsbury Castle. The procession will leave the Castle at approx. 10.20am following the route of Castle Gates, Castle Street, Pride Hill, Mardol Head and St John's Hill to The Quarry. The procession will be led by music from Shrewsbury Brass Band.

A Memorial Service will take place in the Quarry at the War Memorial at 10.45am, Buglers will sound Last Post, which will be followed by two minutes’ silence and Reveille, after which wreaths will be laid. On conclusion of wreath-laying, the Mayoral party will move to the saluting Dias on St Chad’s Terrace, following which there will be a march-past and salute. Military Units and Organisations will march from the Quarry main gates towards Murivance.

Roads will be closed for various periods between 9am and 11.45am. Roads affected are: Castle Gates, Castle St, Pride Hill, Mardol Head, Shoplatch, St Johns Hill, Murivance and St Chads Terrace.

Uncovering Castlefields

This is a guided walk led by Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings' volunteer and local historian Pete Dunhill. It will start at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings and head around the Castlefields area, covering the site of the Castlefields flax mill, the local industry, shops, pubs and street parties going right back to the area's early use as a deer park.

The walk is free, is about 2 miles long and will take around two hours to complete. Please note the Visitor Centre at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings will not be open.
