Battle of Shrewsbury Medieval Weekend

Battlefield 1403, 10am to 5pm both days

FREE entry

This fabulous show of medieval craftsmanship and battle skills descends on Shrewsbury again, with a mega medieval village and more traditional costumes than you can shake a mace at. It’s spectacular. Don’t miss it. 

Each day finishes with a reenactment of the famous 1403 battle between King Henry IV and Sir Henry Percy (Harry Hotspur). 

Ian Pearsall Exhibition at The Soden Collection

Ian Pearsall ‘Journey’ Exhibition, The Soden Collection

The Wyle Cop contemporary gallery will present a selection of recent works by artist Ian Pearsall from July 23 to August 13.

Each week of the ‘Journey’ exhibition will highlight subjects reflecting different periods of Ian’s life:  ‘Africa’, ‘Birth of Industry’ and the ‘Countryside’. The exhibition will also contain music and sculpture which has inspired Pearsall’s work.

Shrewsbury Arts Trail & Sculpture Trail

Follow this wonderful trail to various locations around the town, including exhibitions at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery, Theatre Severn, The Parade and a big Andrew Logan sculpture trail (you can’t miss it!). 

Additional exhibitions are: Lovelyland in the window at Raven Studios, Paul Janczykowski at Bear Steps, Jill Impey at The Hive, Shropshire Art Society at St Mary’s Church and in the Orchard Cafe at Shrewsbury Cathedral, an an exhibition of work by VAN members and local schoolchildren at the Visual Art Network Gallery in the Darwin Shopping Centre.

Shrewsbury Castle Excavation

Shrewsbury Castle Excavations - July 22 - 27

Shrewsbury Castle Dig is open to visitors this week, with a chance to see a third excavation in action on top of the motte (pictured above is the second excavation below the site of an old Victorian greenhouse). The castle is free to enter. You’ll have a chance to meet local archaeologists, volunteers, staff and students from UCS and the University of Chester.

Dragon Boat Festival - July 23 & 24

The big race is back for 2022! Watch the crews in fancy dress, competing to the beat of the drum in 40ft long Dragon Boats along the River Severn by the Shrewsbury School and Pengwern Boat Clubs from 10am to 3pm each day. All in aid of Severn Hospice

Beat the Street in Shrewsbury

Beat the Street

Join in with this fun, free, interactive game that has taken Shrewsbury by storm! 

Find out how to create your own team and start gathering points through healthy exercise as you journey across town. You can pick up a pack and get started from Shrewsbury Library, Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery and The Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre. 

Beat the Street finishes in Shrewsbury on August 10.
